    • M. A. ‘Buck’ Buchanan Age 94, of Appleton, passed away Monday, November 18, 2002 at Franciscan Care Center, Appleton. He was born on September 14, 1908 to William Warren (Leta May Dorsey) Buchanan in Stark County, Illinois. In 1914 he moved to Pike County, settling on a farm near Pittsfield. He graduated in 1930 with an AB degree from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois an M.A. in 1931 at the University of Iowa and a Ph D in 1933, Majoring in Organic Chemistry. At completion of his course, he was chosen to go to Appleton, Wisconsin to do chemical research for the Institute of Paper Chemistry where he continued to work until his retirement in 1973. He served on the Board of Lawrence College. Buck’s outside interests were golfing, gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers. He was also a member of SHHH and the Appleton Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed target shooting and he enjoyed people. On July 8, 1941 he was united in marriage with Catherine Adeline Ebben at Kirksville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1996. Surviving are a son, Bill Buchanan, Appleton, and a daughter, Jean Buchanan, Appleton; brother-in-law Alfred Ebben and sister-in-law Mary Ebben, and many numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Buchanan. We will miss you Dad. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2002 at the funeral home at 7:00 PM with Pete Reinl as officiant. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service at the Columbus Club in Appleton. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Food Pantry and the Parkinson’s Foundation. The family would like to send a sincere thank you to Dr. Jennifer Schoening and the staff of Franciscan Care Center for their kindness, care, and concern shown to Buck.
