      Age 64, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. John was born on July 12, 1938, in Weesp, Netherlands, to the late Dirk and Margaretha (Keyzer) Bavinck. He married Charlotte Smith on July 19, 1969, in Appleton. John was a machinist, employed for 37 years at Metso Minerals (formerly Allis Chalmers) and for six years at Neenah Foundry. John was a loving husband and father. Together with Charlotte, they raised many foster children. He loved soccer and was a coach with the Appleton Soccer Club. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Charlotte; his sons, Robert Bavinck, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Dirk Bavinck, Grand Chute; his daughters, Debra (Todd) Hartzheim, Gilbert, Arizona; and Rebecca Bavinck, Grand Chute; his brothers and sisters, Cornelius (Riet) Bavinck, Neenah; Dirk (Antonette) Bavinck, Appleton; Joe Bavinck, Neenah; and Ben (Jude) Bavinck, Appleton; Henny Kors-Bavinck, Weesp, Netherlands; Willy (Don) Schumacher, Little Chute; and Mary (Michael) Safford, Kaukauna. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catrien Stork and Oeda Knol.

      The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2002, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
