- "Hattie"
88, Appleton, was called home to her Lord and Savior. A devoted wife, mother and sister died unexpectedly of medical complications Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Cherry Meadows with her family and friends at her side. She was born November 22, 1924 in Appleton, daughter of the late Henry & Minnie (Timmers) Van Camp. She married Victor Ringel on Jan. 24, 1952. They enjoyed 12 years together when he died unexpectedly. Together they had three children: Frederick, Susan and John. She remarried Earl Pettis on Oct. 21, 1972 and they shared 37 years together.
Dorothy went to work as a waitress at Melody Supper Club and then at Marcel's restaurant in downtown Appleton. She also worked during her retirement years at Germania Hall in Menasha. Her whole life was devoted to waiting on others which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed people, life and spending time with family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 30 years. She was a dedicated and proud donor to the local Blood Bank where she gave over 8 gallons of blood and 28 units of platelets and plasma. Hattie enjoyed polka music, cooking, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, playing cards and taking little trips with Earl.
She was a lifelong member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Mackville. In her early years, she volunteered for the school lunch program at St. Edward's Grade School. She also volunteered for numerous things and she especially had fun bartending at the Parish Tractor Pull. She baked a lot of pies for the Famous Fish Fries at St. Edwards.
Mom will be remembered for her caring, loving and selfless nature. She always put the needs of others before her own. She was a hard working woman who always put her family first. Her sense of humor and her incredible ability to help strengthen others will be missed. There are not enough words to describe the beauty of Mom. Until the end she appreciated and embraced life's joys.
She is survived by her children and their families: Fredrick (Toni) Ringel (Jamie, Shelly); Susan (Larry) Reinke (Jessie, Travis, Jamie); John (Carole) Ringel (Jesse, Jodi); 5 great grandchildren: Jade, Abby, Evelyn, Bailey and Hailey; Earl's children and families: Patricia Bierdeman (Lori, Rick, Lisa); James (Lori) Pettis (Danielle, Adam, Chris); Richard (LaMila) Pettis; brother, Ervin "Farmer" Van Camp; sister, Rosemary Turek; brothers and sisters-in-law: Hilda Van Camp, Clyde Schmidt, Keith Rudesill, Marilyn Rudesill, Bob & Yvonne Miller, Dorothy Ringel and Dorothy Pettis; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents; Victor Ringel; Earl Pettis; a sister, Lorraine (Lawrence) Boers; a brother, Alfred (Sam) Van Camp; In-Laws: Frederick & Louise (Viergutz) Ringel; Henry & Carrie (Nau) Pettis; Edward Turek; Betty Van Camp; George & Doris Hammes; Herb & Phyllis Genskow; Russell & Pearl Ringel, Margie Schmidt, Rex Pettis, Ellen Sewell, Roy, Harvey, Donley, Ray, Jack and Arthur Pettis.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 am Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral chapel Sunday from 4 - 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm. There will also be visitation at church on Monday from 9 am until the time of mass. A memorial fund is being established.
Special Thanks to Theda Clark ICU, Cherry Meadows Hospice Care, Dr. Juntunen and staff for all of your loving and tender care. Also would like to thank mom's neighbor for all the snowplowing and help they gave her over the years. We are truly grateful. I would also like to thank Susan & Larry for taking care of Mom this past year. She was really spoiled by all of Susan's primping.
To everyone who took time out of their busy lives to visit Mom and make her day brighter, we Thank You.
Happy Birthday Mom, You are our "Sunshine"
