- Gary Van Harpen passed away on July 25, 2015 at his home on Pearl Lake after a short battle with cancer. He was born on July 31, 1941, to Roy and Viola Van Harpen in Neenah, WI. He graduated from Menasha High School in 1959. He began his career at Twin City Dental Lab as a dental technician. He later started Van Harpen Dental Studio. He then followed his dream of owning his own millwork shop called Bridgeview Woodcraft. Bridgeview Woodcraft produced artistic molding, doors, and floors made of beautiful woods. He was an artist in his craft. He married Shirley Nieling on June 15, 1963, in Little Chute, WI. Gary and Shirley worked the businesses in a true partnership. They have three children, Amy Van Harpen Greenville, WI; DJ (Mary), Neenah, WI; and Tom (Jenn) Old Town, ID; and three grandchildren, Lizzy, Madi, and Cameron Van Harpen.
Gary was an avid archery enthusiast and long-time board member in the North Fond du Lac Archery Club in Mt. Morris, WI. He loved archery golfing with his family and friends, and he introduced many newcomers to the sport.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, of 52 years, and his children, his brothers; Tim (Mary), Grafton, WI; Todd (Louise), Kaukauna, WI; Jon Paul, Ft. Meyers Beach, FL; a sister, Mary K. Knox, Menasha, WI; a brother-in-law,David Nieling (Tina), Suring, WI;and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Shirley's parents, Al and Ann Nieling.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 228 Church Ave, Redgranite, WI 54970 with Fr. Jason Blahnik officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. A lunch will be served in the parish hall following the service. Memorials are being established for cancer research and the North Fond du Lac Archery club.
