- Evers, Anthony R. "Tony"
Anthony "Tony" Evers, of Little Chute, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday February 4th, 2016. He was born on June 9, 1929, son of the late John and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Hietpas) Evers. On May 11, 1957 Tony married the love of his life Lorayne Philipsen at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. They were happily married for 58 years.
Tony proudly served his county during the Korean Conflict as a blacksmith in the United States Army. He was a 60 year member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute, serving as a member of the color guard for 30 years. He was proud to be able to wear his original uniform later in life while marching in the local parades. Tony worked at the Kimberly Mill for 27 years as a papermaker before becoming disabled in 1972. Family was most important to Tony. A permanent site at Evergreen provided a weekend retreat for the family in the early days. Over the years he enjoyed family trips to Florida, a romantic trip with his bride to Hawaii, and even skipped a Christmas to take the entire family to Mexico to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. As therapy for his back Tony logged many, many miles taking daily walks with his sidekick "Boots." Those walks continued even after Boots left us. His family gave him great joy and Tony could always be counted on to be watching his children and grandchildren's many activities.
Tony fought a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer. When first diagnosed the oncologist predicted he could possibly survive two years which he proved him wrong. When Tony became too tired for further treatments they predicted another two weeks and placed him on Hospice. That two weeks turned into four months.
Tony is survived by his wife, Lorayne; sons: Mark (Kari), Bruce (Kris), Todd (fiancée Laura), and Doug (fiancée Kim); grandchildren Tyler, Sean (Melissa), Erin (Matt) Kuhn, Rob, Tony (Allison), Zach (special friend Abby), Krystal (Dave) Burrows, Kevin (Christie); great grandchildren Blake and Pierce Burrows, and Aubrey Kuhn. Tony is further survived by his siblings, George (Celeste) Evers, Katie (Raymond) Brockman, and Don Evers; brother and sisters-in-law Ade Evers, Rosie Evers, Ronald Beattie; and many nieces/nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by infant daughter Mary, infant son Tom, son Tom, and great grandson Noah; his parents; his siblings Ed (Vi) Evers, Ray (Del) Evers, Hank Evers, Delia (Marty) Joosten, Whitey Evers, Gordy Evers, and Mary Ann Beattie; father and mother-in-law, Ted and Cecelia Philipsen; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Philipsen and Elaine Evers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 2:30 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. The Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258 will conduct military rites immediately following Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. The Evers family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Goggins and the staff of Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, the Affinity Hospice team (especially Michelle, Ann, Kristin, and Cliff), and the staff at Brewster Village for all of the wonderful care and compassion shown. Their help, care and concern will never be forgotten.
