  • Notes
    • Joan was taken into the company of the angels to bring her home to
paradise on the morning of her 69th birthday, March 10,2004. Joan was
born in 1935 in Appleton, to the late Clem and Marie (Van Driel) Van
Zeeland. She married Jerry Cummings January 15, 1966, in Oshkosh. In
addition to collecting angels, Joan enjoyed painting ceramic dolls. She
often gave these dolls to her favorite Country Western singers. She
loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joan
is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jerry, and her mother,
Anna Van Zeeland Dercks, Little Chute; 3 children: Cindy (Robert)
Schafer, Neenah; Lonnie (Liz) Cummings, Parker, CO; AI (Marie)
Cummings, Oshkosh; 2 brothers: Clem (Lori) Van Zeeland and Gary
Dercks, both of Little Chute; 9 grandchildren: Jen (Nick) Walbrun, Rocky
Schafer, Austin, Ryan, Raena, Tyler, Nicole, Alison and Zachary
Cummings; brothers and sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Victor) Loberger, Jim (LiI)
Cummings, Carol (Mike) Valeri, Marvin Cummings (fiancee Sharon) and
      Diane (Jack) Donnermeyer.
Although faced with much loss in her younger years, Joan was blessed
by the love of four parents, 3 of whom preceded her in death: Clem
and Marie Van Zeeland and Paul Dercks; She was also preceded in death
by her son, Randy, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Helen
      Cummings.
A memorial service for Joan will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13,
2004, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 226 Washington St., Menasha.
Father Ian Montgomery will officiate. The family will receive friends at
the church from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of
flowers, a memorial is being established. Jennifer O'Connell with
