Corby, Lorraine "Lorry" (nee Steffens) Lorraine "Lorry" (nee Steffens) Corby, age 76, of Rhinelander, WI, and formerly of Green Bay, WI, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Lorry was born on January 7, 1931, in Kaukauna to Joseph and Whilomenia Steffens. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1949. On September 12, 1950, she married Robert Corby. The couple lived in Green Bay until 1999. Lorry worked as a legal secretary for Everson, Whitney, Everson & Brehm for 22 years.
Over the years, Lorry was actively involved in many organizations including President of the St. Ann's Society at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay and Co-President of the Home School Association at St. Patrick's. She was also a member of the League of Woman Voters, member of the Foundation for Global Community, Secretary of the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, Secretary and Board of Director for the Mediation Center for Greater Green Bay, Hospice volunteer, member of the Curriculum Committee of the Institute for Learning in Retirement in Rhinelander, Committee Member GFWC Rhinelander Woman's Club for establishing the Labyrinth on the YMCA of the Northwoods grounds, member of Future of Peace Group, member of WW=P, and member and Board of Directors for the Oneida County Library Foundation. Lorry was a warm, loving, grace-filled woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her extraordinary capacity to touch others in her dignified and gentle manner was her gift to all she knew and loved. Because of Lorry's presence in our lives, her peacefulness will be forever etched upon our hearts.
Lorry is survived by her sons: Chris (Sue) Corby, Milwaukee, WI; Patrick (Mary) Corby, Carlisle, PA; and Cal (friend Shelia) Corby, Green Bay; her daughters: Connie Corby, Rhinelander; Cathy (Ray) Ambrosius, Appleton; her grandchildren: Ross, Neal, Jeff, Timothy, Danielle, Katie, Luke, Maggie, Andrew, Isaiah, Anee, and Adam; great-grandchildren: Madison and Breanna Withrow; her sister, Florence Steffens Bodde; and her brothers: George (Gina) Steffens and Melvin (Bev) Steffens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Corby; her grandson, Paul Corby; and her sisters and brothers: Sister Leanore O.P., Vincent Steffens, Sister Jane Francis O.P., Peter Steffens, Francis Steffens, Richard Steffens, William Steffens, Nicholas Steffens, and Genevieve Steffens Frederickson.
Visitation and memorial service for Lorry will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander from 4 to 7 p.m. concluding with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Ray Ambrosius officiating. Funeral services for Lorry will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna with Fr. Willard VanDeLoo officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. A memorial has been established in Lorry's name and may be directed to her family.
