Raymond M. Evers
'Raz'
Age 80, of Freedom, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 after a long illness. He was born February 12, 1924 in Little Chute, son of the late John and Minnie [Hietpas] Evers. He married Adele Geurts January 25, 1947 and she preceded him in death June 19, 1988. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, the Freedom VFW Post # 7692, the American Legion Jacob Coppus # 258 Little Chute for 59 years, a past Commander of both. The Freedom Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a former treasurer of the board of directors, the lions club, and the Athletic Ass., all of Freedom, and a former member of Fox Valley Golf Club. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and received the Freedom Community Service award in 1987. He was employed by Van Zeeland Oil Co. for more than 40 years.
Survivors are a daughter and son in-law, Jean [Terry] Rebholz, Appleton; five sons and daughters in-law, Mike [Joyce] Evers, Freedom; Bill [Carol] Evers, Racine; Jay [Val] Evers, Kaukauna; Kevin [Lorie] Evers, Chris [Mary] Evers, all of Freedom; grandchildren, Sandra Weatherwax, Scott [Johnni Lynn] Van Boxtel; Nikki Evers and fiance John Bell, Tammy and Brett Evers; Brian Evers and fiancee Kathleen Borchardt, Kelly Evers; Jessica, Amanda, Kyle Evers; Kassandra, Zachary, Chandler, Alexis Evers; Brooke Ray, Emily and Nathan Evers; step grandchilden; Michelle [Matt Kuhn] Rebholz; Maria Rebholz and fiance Mike Adney and Michael Rebholz; two great grandchildren; Jenna Ray and Brett Van Boxtel; two sisters and brothers in-law; Delia Joosten, Kimberly; Katie and Ray [Heimer] Brockman, Little Chute; Ron Beattie, Little chute; brothers and and sisters in-law, Henry and Ada, Combined Locks; Anthony and Lorayne, Little Chute; Sebastian 'Whitey' and Peggy, Little Chute; Gordon and Rosalie, Combined Locks; Donald and Elaine, Little Chute; Viola [Diedrich] Evers, Freedom; brothers and sisters in-law, Ruth Geurts, Crivitz; Pat and Gerald Romenesko, Appleton; Betty and Paul Wilke, Appleton; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edward, and sister, Mary Ann Beattie; his brother in-law, Martin Joosten; his father in-law and mother in-law, Joseph and Verna [VanRixel] Geurts; and special friend, Mark DeCoster.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at St. Nicholas Church, Freedom with Rev. Dennis Ryan and Deacon Don Newhouse officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. American Legion and VFW prayer will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
