- Grace M. Weiland, age 87, of Kaukauna, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Grace was born on August 14, 1922, in Little Chute to the late John and Delia (Verbeten) VanGompel. She married Louis J. Weiland in 1945; he preceded her in death in May of 1980. Grace proudly served her country during World War II as a Medical Corpsman in the U.S. Army Air Transport Command from 1944 to 1945. She belonged to the American Legion in Little Chute and the American Legion Woman's Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, playing her piano, card playing and especially spending time with LeRoy and her family.
Survivors include her children: Jim (Marge) Weiland, Madison; Sherry (Patrick) Carney, Little Chute; Dorothy Weiland, Kaukauna; Gary (Donna) Weiland; Little Chute; Cindy Pilcher, Louisville, Nebraska; and Amy (Mark) Simon, Kaukauna; her grandchildren: John and Christopher Weiland; Kelly (Tim) Schumacher; Wendy Carney; Tom, Tim, Tracy and Nina Weiland; Hayley and Savannah Pilcher, Austin and Ryan Simon; her great-grandchildren, Sam and Alexis Schumacher; Dustin Perkins, Cheyenne Will, Dahlia Weiland and Nicholas Weiland; her sister, Elaine Wrobel; her brother, Kenneth (Dorothy) VanGompel; her sister-in-law, Frances Monary; and her special friend and companion LeRoy Jensen.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl and Joe VanGompel, and her sisters, Florence Vandevoort, Ceil Vandenberg and Joanne Newhouse.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Military Honors will be observed following the funeral services. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
