- Kaukauna - Michael C. Van Asten, age 69, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston. He was born May 26, 1948, son of Raymond and Dorothy (Koehler) Van Asten. Michael was a millwright at Thilmany paper mill and retired to his cottage on Lake Tomahawk. Never one to sit still, he liked to spend time mowing lawns, collecting and fixing vehicles of all kinds, and winning at the casino. Michael was a spirited man who enjoyed laughing and joking with all he knew.
He is survived by his wife Susan, Lake Tomahawk; one son: Vaughn Van Asten (Melissa Loest), Appleton; one stepson: Ross Lotharius (Mary), Baltimore; one sister: Donna (Heilman) Eberly; and one step-grandson: Nathan Lotharius. He is further survived by five nephews: Brian, Raymond, Brian, Dan, Bob; one niece: Joanne; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers: Marvin and Merlin; and a brother-in-law, Jim Heilman.
A memorial service for Michael will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Mary Church, 119 West Seventh St., Kaukauna with Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogan officiating and Deacon Steve Vande Hey, pastoral leader assisting. Friends may call directly at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in Michael's name.
