    • Lena - John Irvin Scheffen age 89 of Lena, passed away on June 6, 2018. He was born to the late Irvin and Genevieve (Williamson) Scheffen on August 10, 1928. He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1946. He joined the Air Force in August of 1946 and served in the Berlin Air Lift, Korea Conflict, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis and he had 18 thousand hours of airtime, John took part in the 2012 honor flight to Washington DC at the World War II Memorial and he served for over 20 years. He married the love of his life Rita Rosera on February 14, 1953. After the Air Force he owned and operated the Lena Deep Rock Gas Station for 16 years. He was charter member of the Baylanders Barbershop Chorus, music was his passion. He had a gift that he could hear a song one time and sit down at his piano and play it note for note. He was on the Lena Fire Department, a member of the Lena Knights of Columbus and member of St. Anne Church. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and especially singing around the camp fire with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Rita, 5 children Mary (Mike) Hodkiewicz, Bonnie Tousey (special friend Mark Hodkiewicz) , Jeanne (David) Lenderman, Debbie Zakerski and Steve (Carrie) Scheffen, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, one sister Pat Bero and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Richard John Scheffen, one grandson Erik Tousey and one great grandson Kyle Hodkiewicz, brother Fred Scheffen and son-in-law Bud Tousey. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home in Lena on Friday June 8th from 4-7pm. The visitation will be again on Saturday June 9th from 9-11 am at St. Anne Church in Lena with mass to follow, father Nonito Barra officiating.
