Mrs. Joseph H. Van Gompel [Barbara Van Asten] 611 E. Maes Ave. Kimberly
Age 65, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed, died Friday, September 23, 1988, at Appleton Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born May 24, 1923 in Freedom, the daughter of the late Mike and Johanna [Arnoldussen] Van Asten. She had live in Kimberly for most of her life, and was an avid bingo player. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary William Vehagen Post No. 60, Kimberly, and the Ladies of Holy Name.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph, a son and daughter in-law, Robert and Valerie Van Gompel, Kimberly; three daughters and two sons in-law, Patricia Van Hammond, Kimberly; Yvonne and Thomas Corbett, Readfield; Diane and Michael Meier, Little Chute; nine grandchildren, Marty and Dave Van Hammond; Julie and Amy Corbett; Todd, Jamie and Scott Van Gompel; Michelle and Gina Meier; a great grandson, Matthew Van Hammond; and a brother and two sisters in-law, Melvin and Jean Van Asten, Kimberly; Dorothy Van Asten, Kaukauna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Clayton and Raymond. The funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 1988 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly with Msgr. Carl Steiner officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home, 204 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
