- Cyril M. "Cy" Van Laanen, 80, New Franken, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 16, 2012, due to a stroke. He was born on June 12, 1931, to the late Earl and Maryleen (Liebergen) Van Laanen. He married Jacqueline Tilot on Oct. 9, 1954, at St. Huberts in Sugarbush. He served in the National Guard. Cy was a truck driver for 30 years until his retirement. He was currently serving as a supervisor for the town of Scott. Cy was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Parish. He loved to fish and spend time woodworking in his shop.
Survivors included his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Van Laanen; five children, Steven (Mary Beth) Van Laanen, Tom (Louann) Van Laanen, Mary (John) Willemon, Kathy (Gary) Lemens, Jean (Gene) Lannoye; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Ambrose "Sonny" (Harriet) Van Laanen; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Gerald (Millie) Tilot, Arlene (Ray) Phillips, Kenny (Shirley) Tilot, Maurice (Rita) Tilot and Sally (Alan) Borley.
He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Milton Greatens; mother and father-in-law, Mary and William Tilot.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish, 3009 Bay Settlement Rd. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at the church with Fr. Tom Hagendorf, O.Praem officiating.
