- Jean M. Voster, age 62 of Suring, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2016 at The Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her Life Partner Michelle by her side. Jean had concord lung cancer for the past 4 years. She was born to Vernon and Ruth (Jamison) Voster of Appleton, Wisconsin on April 11, 1954. Jean graduated from Xavier High School in 1972. She went on to college at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she graduated in the late 70's.
Jean joined the United States Army in 1982 in the career field of Signal. Jean was stationed in many different places such as Germany, Korea, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, and Honduras. She was in such states as Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, and her last duty station was where she retired from in 2006. Jean was very proud to be a Drill Sergeant at Fort Sill Oklahoma, in Kuwait where she trained foreign women to be in the military and a soldier of the year. Of her many medals, she had acquired a Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Accommodation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (7th award), Army Good Conduct (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. She truly enjoyed being in the Army. She retired as a Master Sergeant (E8). While in Honduras she acted as First Sergeant and the Post Command Sergeant Major, a position she really enjoyed doing. Jean and Michelle built their home in Breed, Wisconsin in the fall of 2002. She drove from Fort McCoy on weekends until her retirement in 2006. Jean enjoyed working in the community until her diagnosis. Jean was a member of American Legion Post #283 in Suring and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2119 in Mountain.
Jean is survived by her life partner, Michelle Bensman; 4 siblings, Sherry (Ervin) Wagner of Neenah, Michael (Kathy) Voster of Appleton, Lynne (Rory) Moore of Greenville, Lori (Andy) Vance of Appleton; father-in-law, Robert (Bobby) Paticoni-Rehner of Bloomfield, Indiana; brother-in-law, Edward (Marie) Bensman of South Bend, Indiana. She is futher survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Rehner; great nephew Henry Ervin Wagner; many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring, Wisconsin from 4 pm until 8 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm with Sister Marla Clercx officiating. Visitation will resume on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church Chapel at Chute Lake (12494 Hwy 32/64 Chute Lake (Mountain) WI 54149) from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am with Sister Marla Clercx and Father David Funk officiating. Interment will take place in Breed Union Cemetery with Military Honors. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
