- Marilyn Rose (Demerath) Dietman
Peoria, AZ - Marilyn passed away on April 15, 2020 in Peoria, AZ at the age of 59, due to congestive heart failure. She was a cancer survivor, being cancer free the past 10 years. Marilyn was strong in her faith and when told in her final days that her body was failing, she relayed her thoughts in peace. "Soon I will be having a New Birthday - passing into the arms of Our Lord!"
Marilyn was born October 11, 1960 in Kaukauna, WI and grew up in Combined Locks, WI, the 6th of 8 children of Peter J. and Germaine (Jansen) Demerath. She went to Holy Name Catholic grade school and graduated in 1979 from Kimberly High School, Kimberly, WI. While growing up, Marilyn enjoyed Girl Scouts, singing in choirs, and spending time with family and friends at various cottages and campgrounds. She loved swimming and was like a fish in water!!
Marilyn received 2 Associate Degrees in General Accounting and Data Processing at Fox Valley Technical Institute, Appleton, WI. While pursuing her degrees, she worked at PCA (Production Credit Associates) and waitressed at the Moasis Truck Stop. After graduating, Marilyn moved to Hudson, WI to start her career at Farm Credit Services in St. Paul, MN where she met her future husband Thomas A Dietman. Tom was a security guard at her workplace while he attended college. They married on May 24, 1985 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish (now Holy Spirit) in Kimberly, WI soon after he graduated. They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year. In June 1985, Marilyn and Tom moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she worked for Valley National Bank of Arizona which became Bank One (now Chase Bank). For the past 20 years, Marilyn worked at State Farm in their State Farm Marina Heights office in Tempe. She was an Infrastructure Analyst before retiring on April 1, 2020 due to health issues.
Marilyn and Tom loved their dogs. She considered them to be her 4-legged "children". Their pets were always a source of great comfort and joy. They also cherished their get-togethers with friends and family, including her Aunt Joan Gebert and the Gebert and Jansen cousins. Since Marilyn was a true Packers' fan and Tom was a true Vikings' fan, they celebrated with football parties, especially when the Packers rivaled the Vikings. They even held a "Divorce" party during one of the Packers vs. Vikings games - and a good time was had by all! They also enjoyed their time share vacations, especially in Ruidoso, NM.
Music and singing were her true passions. For many years Marilyn sang in St Jerome's Catholic Church choir and at their Healing Masses. She was a great alto singer and with her beautiful voice, loved harmonizing with others. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, collecting lighthouses, and playing many number games, especially if statistics were involved. She cherished the many friends she met through work, her neighbors, and the church choir. We know a lot of you were always there for her. You were her Arizona family!
Marilyn treasured family visits and especially loved going to Door County, WI in autumn to see the beautiful fall colors. During her visits, Marilyn saw as many family members as possible. She deeply loved them all!
Marilyn is survived by her 7 siblings: Sharon (Leon) Zellner, New Franken WI; Debbie (Jim) Woroniecki, Dale WI; Ron (Diane) Demerath, Kaukauna WI; Dr. Bob (Susan) Demerath, East Amherst, NY; Denise (Steve Verstegen) Vanden Bosch, Appleton, WI; Ken (Gail) Demerath, Appleton WI; and Bill (Shelley Wilson) Demerath, Munith, MI.
