- Appleton Post Crescent, Sun. Sept. 7, 1997, p. B6:2. Marvin J. Horn, Menasha, 64, died Sat. Sept. 6, 1997, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born Dec. 27, 1932 in Hilbert, son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt Horn. Marvin married Shirley Bastian on June 14, 1956, at St. John Catholic Church in Hilbert. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. Marvin was employed at U.S. Paper as a pipe fitter for 37 years and was a member of St. John-Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood. Marvin was also on the board of directors for the Harrison Athletic Association and was a member of the German American Society. Marvin is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald (Jean) Horn, Sherwood; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra (Robert) Pierson, Hartland; Patricia (John) Spatchek, Brillion; Mary Horn, Menasha, and special friend Glenn Krause, Menasha; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Norbert (Barbara) Horn, Sherwood, and Eugene Horn, Menasha; five sisters, Angie (Greg) Weber, Fond du Lac; Marie (Norbert) Vande Yacht, Kimberly; Josephine (Eugene) Van Linn, Neenah; Georgene Porter, Menasha, and Betty (Anthony) Mallmann, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Horn. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at St. John-Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood with Rev. Kenneth Frozena and Rev. Daniel Gilsdorf officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Laemmrich Community Funeral Home, Menasha, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Laemmrich Community Funeral Home. A memorial has been established.
