Ethel L. Halbach, of Kaukauna, formerly of the Town of Harrison, age 78, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in the Town of Harrison on December 21, 1930, to the late Adolph and Anna (Berghuis) Otte. Ethel married Donald Halbach on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1952, at St. Therese Parish in Appleton. Together they ran Hi-Way 55 Auto Sales, south of Kaukauna for 48 years.
Ethel was a prayerful and devoted Catholic who was a charter member of St. Aloysius Parish. She enjoyed her retreats at Monte Alverno and volunteering in nursing homes, Catholic schools and most recently at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Kaukauna. She kept a meticulous house and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing and cooking. Sundays were always a special day for spending time enjoying the grandchildren, whether at home or the cottage up north. She was proud to carry on the tradition of the Christmas Cherry Tree with her family. Ethel worked at St. Paul Home until her retirement in 2006.
