- Gloria Vanden Boogart, 83, Little Chute, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Monday, January 24, 2011, at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute. She was born January 2, 1928, in Appleton, daughter of Victor and Laura (Rohde) Verwey. She was proud to be the valedictorian of her eighth class at Zion Lutheran Church and was also a 1946 graduate of Appleton West High School. She was a lifeguard at Erb Park, Appleton, for several years. Gloria married Robert A. Vanden Boogart April 11, 1950, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. She was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mills and The Bridal Shop. Mrs. Vanden Boogart was also a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. Gloria was an accomplished and talented seamstress known for sewing numerous bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns; along with countless alterations. She could look at any photo and was able to match the quality, style and pattern of the dress. Gloria loved early rock and roll boogie, and enjoyed dancing to any "beat." She was a member of the Appleton YMCA water aerobics and their "splitters" club after their workouts. Gloria and Robert enjoyed their times at their lake home in Lakewood on St. John Lake. Gloria loved her family.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert "Bogie"; children: Cher (Jim) Vissers, Appleton; Rick (Jane) Vanden Boogart, Kaukauna; Jay (Kathy) Vanden Boogart, Beaver Dam; Scott (Reynalda) Vanden Boogart, Appleton; Todd (Shawn) Vanden Boogart, Darboy; Dave (Janel) Vanden Boogart, Darboy; Kim (Enzo) Mancuso, Kennesew, Georgia; 16 grandchildren: Eric Vissers, Amy (David) Torpen, Lisa Vanden Boogart, Matthew (Amy) Vanden Boogart, Andrew (Kate) Vanden Boogart, Kailey Bauer, Robert Vanden Boogart, Anthony, Travis and Ashley Vanden Boogart, Dana and Morgan Vanden Boogart, Garrett and Logan Nelson, Chiara and Marco Mancuso; 4 great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Allison, Johnathan and Harlow; a brother-in-law, Martin (Martha) Vanden Boogart, Little Chute; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Walter) Rutten, Kaukauna; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Sally Vanden Boogart; granddaughter, Laurie Vissers; grandson, Adam Vissers; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Peter) Van Lankvelt.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, with Fr. Larry Canavera officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
