    • Sobieski - Barbara Jean Dercks, 67, passed away on November 25, 2018, after a brave fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her faith in God guided her through life and her courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born to the late Marvin and Germaine Smith (Van Gompel) on March 24, 1951, in Appleton, WI. She graduated from Xavier High School in the spring of 1969. On October 2, 1971, she married the love of her life, Michael R. Dercks of Little Chute, WI at St. Thomas More Catholic church.

Barb was blessed with four wonderful children, Kim (Jason) Albers, Tammy Leurquin, Renee Schuelke, and Michael T. Dercks. Bringing her lots of joy were her grandchildren, Austin, Michaela, Eava, Miranda, Brady, Kaylie, Gabby, Evie, Teagen, Clover and Zac. She is further survived by her sister, Pat (Joe) Brinsko, brother, Ron (Mimi) Smith, brother, Jim (Deb) Smith, sister, Jayne (Mark) Ziegler, mother in law, Myra Dercks (Van Zeeland),brother in law, Dave (Norma) Dercks, sister in law, Becky (Ron) Glenn, brother in law, Tom (Deb) Dercks, brother in law, Terry (Lori) Dercks, brother in law, Dennis (Jennifer) Dercks, special Cuz, Tim (Kathy) Kernen and and many nieces and nephews.

After stops in Kimberly, Fond Du Lac, and Green Bay, they settled down in Sobieski where for 40 years they continuously worked to create a perfect home. Her love of gardening created a sanctuary where family and friends would gather for drinks on the patio, stories around the campfires, and where she could enjoy watching her grandkids swimming in the pond. The last six years Barb and Mike spent their winters in Florida where so many wonderful new friendships grew to include people from Canada as well as the States. She was a devoted Packers and Brewers fan. Barb's generosity and love of life showed through in so many acts of kindness towards family, friends, and mostly towards many of the students she enjoyed throughout her career in the Pulaski School System. She so easily made friends with her smile and her unassuming personality that people opened up to her as if they had known her forever. A special thank you to Mike and Pam Landon from Rockland, ON for all you have been for us the last six years.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, sister Karen Derks (Smith), father in law, Russell Dercks, nephews Greg Derks and Joey Glenn, and son in-law Chris Leurquin.

Visitation will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., Green Bay, Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4 - 7 pm. with prayer a service to follow and will continue at St Maximilian Kolbe Parish on December 1, 2018 from 10 am. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. with Father Antonio de los Santos officiating.
