Val Portman, age 67, died Tuesday morning at her residence after a long illness. She was born April 1, 1923 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Weber) West. She married Ervin Portman February 15, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oshkosh and past president of the Ladies Foresters.
Survivors include her husband, four sons; Gerald (Julie), Wheaton, Illinois; Lee (Leanne), Fond du Lac; James (Char), Roswell, Georgia; Ervin Jr. (Susan) Buffalo Grove, Illinois; four daughters; Gerald (Susan) Woodson, Waupaca; Rev. Dean (Barbara) Einerson, West Bend; James (Beverly) Campbell, Menasha; Karl (Patricia) Linck, Kohler; her father, Joseph West, Appleton; three brothers; Bud West, Appleton; Robert West, Seattle, Washington; Norbert West, Appleton; a sister, Arline Rogers, Appleton; 22 grandchildren including Randy and Jean Bleicher, and a great gradchild.
A sister, Lola preceded her in death.
Services will be Friday, November 2, 1990 at 10 a.m. at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels and a 10:30 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oshkosh with Rev. Ronald Schneider officiating. Entombment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Eagle Street Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A memorial has been established.
