      MANY ATTEND LAST RITES FOR J. VERTZ
      Legion Present in Body to Honor Veteran of Civil War
      EGG HARBOR- One of the largest funerals ever held here was seen at the St. John's church last Saturday mornig at 10 o'clock when requim high mass was sung for Jacob Vertz, veteran of the Civil war and a pioneer of this township for the past half a century.
      The body was brought from the home at 9:30 where the Archie Lackshire post of the American legion had draped the casket with a beautiful American flag, and pallbearers were Mr. Vertz' six oldest sons, George, Sturgeon Bay; David and Nels, Sevastopol; Eli, of Green Bay; and Joseph and Fred, of Egg Harbor. The Rev. Father Barrett officiated; and at the grave the legionaires, who attended in a body, gave the military salute and taps. Commander Weitermann and Atty. G. M. Stapleton, service officer, preseneted the flag which covered the casket to Mrs. Vertz, the bereaved widow.
      Among those who attended the funeral rites were Mr. and Mrs. John Pongier, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pongier, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pongier and sons, Leroy and Eugene, and Miss Corolia Lorgene, all of Sheboygan; Mr. an Mrs. Eli Vertz and daughter Helen, of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Vertz and daughter Clara and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nekett and daughters, all of Two Rivers; Mr. and Mrs. John Vertz, of Mishicott; Mrs. Julia LaPlant and daughters, of Lena; Mr. and Mrs. Elton LaPlant, Appleton; Mrs. Frank Monosso, of Niagara; and Mrs. L. M Churchill, of Marinette. Fifteen surviving children in the family of sixteen were present at the funeral.
