- Joseph "Joe" Hockers, 78, of Greenleaf, died unexpectedly Monday April 6, 2015 at a local hospital. The son of the late Edward and Angie (Bressinck) Hockers was born December 30, 1936 in De Pere. Joe served in the U.S. Army and had farmed with his family for several years. He married the former Carol De Greef on September 17, 1959 at St. Francis Church in De Pere. The couple recently celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary.
Joe had worked at Ft. Howard Paper Mill for several years. He and Carol owned and operated the Swan Club in De Pere for many years, prior to retirement. During his Swan Club years, he and Carol were active supporters of many athletic teams and projects. He was a member of the Brown County Tavern League and local and state restaurant associations. He was a member of St. Clare Parish and was a long-time member of the De Pere Kiwanis Club. Joe loved his time with family and friends at the family cottage on Lee Lake and the many pontoon boat cruises. He enjoyed downhill skiing and was a member of the Venture Ski Club. Joe loved his many pontoon boat cruises. Joe enjoyed golfing with family and friends and the Mulligan Golf Group at Kelly Lake. Joe enjoyed cheering on his son's when they raced , and his grandchildren's sporting events. He loved telling jokes to friends and he lit up the room with his smile.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, their children, Dale and Angela Hockers (children Amanda and Andrew Perdzock), Dave and Rose Hockers (children, Matt, Steve and Jenny Hockers), Tom and Jan Hockers, Cathy (Hockers) Burns, Mark and Brenda Hockers (children, Jordan and Evan Hockers), Kim (Hockers) and Rob Kerkhoff (children, Collin and Rachel Kerkhoff), as well as brothers and sisters, Jude Hockers, Larry and Edna Carter, Melvin and Mary Hockers, Elaine and Ray Haen, Eunice and Gary Hudson, Patty Hockers, Patrick Hockers, Rita Hockers and Harold Rottier. Further survived by a special aunt, Rosella Heuvelman, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Daniel, and a brother Gerald Hockers,
Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday April 8, 2015. Parish prayer service will conclude the evening with Deacon Kevin De Cleene, officiating. Visitation will continue at St. Clare Catholic Church, Wrightstown - St. Paul Site after 2:30 pm on Thursday until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:30 pm Thursday at the church with Father Dennis Bergsbaken, officiating. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
