- Frances Mary (Welhouse) Helms, 97, of Appleton, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Fox River Assisted Living. She was born on May 8, 1916 in Kimberly, daughter of John and Hattie (Sternagal) Welhouse.
Frances worked at Hopfensperger Meat Market in Appleton where she met the love of her life and eternal partner Elmer Helms. Frances and Elmer were married on July 26, 1941. She also worked at the Kimberly Paper Mill and later at Mrs. Karl's Bakery until in 1981, she retired to lovingly care for her newborn grandchild Kelly.
Frances and Elmer are members of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Frances enjoyed being active in cooking, baking, sewing, and caring for the yard. Together they enjoyed golfing, racing and sporting events, card playing with relatives and friends and just spending time with family and friends. Elmer and Frances traveled each year meeting new friends and eventually visiting all 50 states.
Frances is survived by her two children; son Gary, Appleton, and daughter, Pat (Pat) Byrne, Appleton: grand-daughter, Kelly (Eric) DeWine, Fremont, and grand-son, Shawn (Shelby) Byrne, Madison, and many loved extended family members. She was recently preceded in death by her husband Elmer (9/26/13), and sisters Viola, Rosella, and Julia, brothers Joe and John and parents John and Hattie Welhouse.
A Memorial Service for Frances will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday May 8, 2014 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 3:00 PM until the hour of service. We thought it fitting that we celebrate her life on this day of May 8th as Frances would have been 98.
The family of Elmer and Frances would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of both Heartland Hospice and Fox River Assisted Living, for all their care and support in helping the Helms family thru a difficult year.
