Geenen, Rev. Father Roy J. Rev. Father Roy J. Geenen, age 65, Waupaca, formerly of Menasha, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 19, 2007. Father Geenen was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on January 13, 1942, the son of the late Ray Edward and Lucina (Vanevenhoven) Geenen. Fr. Roy was a man of many hats, delighting people with his wit and wisdom (and hats) from the pulpit, on local theatrical stages and at Parish gatherings. Fr. Roy believed in the words of Jesus, "I have come that you might have life and have it to the full." Therefore it was his wish that any of his useable organs and tissues be donated to other people in need.

He attended St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee and was ordained on May 25, 1968, by Bishop Aloysius J. Wycislo at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Father Geenen's first appointment was as Assistant at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Green Bay (1968). He then served as Associate Pastor at St. Bernadette Parish, Appleton (1971); St. Andrew Parish, Manitowoc (1973); and St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay (1975). He was appointed Pastor of St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay (1977); St. Patrick Parish, Menasha (1985); and St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Waupaca (2006). He was also appointed Priest Moderator of St. Patrick Parish, Stephensville, and St. Denis Parish, Shiocton, while continuing to serve as Pastor in Waupaca. He was recently appointed Temporary Administrator of St. Mark Parish, Redgranite, and Sacred Heart Parish, Poy Sippi (2007). Father also was a member of the Presbyteral Council, elected in June, 2006. Father Geenen served as Bishop's representative to the Green Bay Catholic High Schools Budget Review Committee (1977); as a Field Advocate for the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal (1981); as a Pastor Consultor (2005); and was the Regional Vicar of Vicariate VIII from 2002-2006.

He is survived by a sister, Donna (Gary) Habert, Kaukauna; a brother, James (Mary) Geenen, Streamwood, Illinois; Special Friend, Linda Zahorik, Oshkosh; Nieces and Nephews, Karen (Joseph) Kath, Chatham, Illinois; Laura (Jeff) Wiegel, St. Charles, Illinois; Brad Habert, Kaukauna; and Great Nieces Morgan and Natalie Kath.

He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Reception of the body by the Regional Vicar, Father Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep, will take place at Noon on Friday, January 26, 2007, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Waupaca. Visitation will follow until 4. The Funeral Liturgy, expressing the Catholic faith and hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will follow at 4 p.m. Bishop David A. Zubik will be the Presider and Father John Bergstadt will preach the homily. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Menasha. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the parishes where Father Roy has served for giving him prayer, love and support in his priestly ministry.
