Rhodes, Ruth
Ruth Rhodes, De Pere, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 07, 2008. She was born June 21, 1923, in Little Chute, WI, daughter of the late George and Lillian (Boes) Vander Velden. She married Harry Rhodes on May 1, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1988. Ruth waitressed at various restaurants and supper clubs for over 40 years, and worked as a crossing guard for the City of De Pere for the past 28 years. She also was the first non-family member to work at Seroogy's Candies. Ruth loved sports of all kinds, especially watching her sons and grandkids. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. Ruth was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, which was an integral part of her life.
Survivors include her three sons, Dave (Judi) Rhodes, Town of Rome, Wis., and their children, Dean (Shelly) Rhodes, Dan (Deann) Rhodes, Douglas (Megan) Rhodes, Holly Rhodes, Scott Bornowski, and Todd (Rebecca) Bornowski; Dennis (Judy) Rhodes, Allouez, and their children, Tamra Rhodes and Tiffany (Rod) Marceille; and Dale (Pat) Rhodes, De Pere and their children: Dusty Rhodes, Trisha Rhodes, Derek Rhodes, and Drew Rhodes; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mercedes Chartier, Freedom, Wis.; and special lifelong friend, Evelyn Hoth, Green Bay.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and three sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Rhodes.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kirk Leach officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. The family extends a warm thank you to Karen Farrel and Miranda Svenson, who took care of Ruth at her home the last month of her life.
