- Giordana, Carl F. Kaukauna
Age 80, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on October 26, 1922 in Kaukauna the son of the late Emil and Laura (De Quardo) Giordana. Carl graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1941. He excelled in athletics all of his life. He was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame in High School and also at Lawrence University. Carl served on many grade school and high school athletic and booster clubs. He served his country in the United States Air Force during his time at Lawrence and graduated from there in 1948. On April 15, 1950 he married Dolores Rieth in Kaukauna. He was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company for 38 years retiring in 1986. Carl was the recipient of the Kaukauna Alumni Award in 1991, and worked for the Kaukauna Park and Recreation Department as an umpire and referee for 55 years. At the time of his death, he was still actively scheduling and supervising the Carl F. Giordana Gymnasium at Holy Cross Catholic School in Kaukauna. He is survived by his wife Dolores of Kaukauna, his children and grandchildren: Carla Giordana and her children Leah, Lacey, and Jared all of Waukesha; Ric (Vicki) Giordana and their children Nicole, and Ryan; Reed (Linda) Giordana and their children Jenna, and Jordan; Ross (Jody) Giordana and their children Allie, Breanna, Carly, and Drew all of Kaukauna; and Paula Giordana of Cary, North Carolina. Carl is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Sr. Jilene Giordana of Racine, Wisconsin, Philomena Skalmusky of Kaukauna, Mary (Henry) Hubert, Frank (Florence) Giordana all of Kaukauna, James (Sally) Giordana of Kenosha, Robert (Pope) Giordana, Richard (Sally) Giordana, and Janice (Bob) Hammen all of Kaukauna, many nieces and nephews, a brother-in-law Walter Schmidt of Wrightstown, and two sisters-in-law Lorraine Giordana, and Donna Giordana both of Kaukauna. He was preceded in death by a sister Lucille Schmidt, and two brothers Joseph Giordana, Emil Giordana, Jr., and a brother-in-law Rudy Skalmusky. A memorial mass will be conducted on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home in Kaukauna on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. And at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be at 7:30 PM on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Carl enjoyed working with countless numbers of young people and devoted his life to helping them to develop their athletic skill and character, but first and foremost in his life was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
