- MARIE WEST MALCHOW, born March 13, 1828 and married Richard Malchow on
Oct. 9, 1948. Their children are James, Mark, Becky Rick and Randy. While
attending school she baby sat for her aunts and neighbors, her first job
was at St, Elizabeths Hospital. When she was 17, she contracted scarlet
fever. The house was quarantined, all the children had to be sent out to
live with relatives. It became necessary for her to be sent to a quarantined
hospital where she was for six weeks. Her facial skin peeled off
and she no longer had freckles, She and Dick lived with her Mother for
several years while he was on the police force. He later became a car
salesman. They nmw live in Appleton.

Marie T. (West) Malchow, Appleton, age 69, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Monday, March 31, 1997 at her residence. She was born March 13, 1928 in the town of Grand Chute, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Oudenhoven) West. On October 9, 1948 Marie married Richard B. Malchow. Marie loved flower gardening, playing golf, bridge and to bowling and hiking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, Marie was employed as an accountant clerk with Schumacher-Romenesko & Ass. until her retirement in 1991.
Survivors includes her husband, Richard; two daughters; Rebecca 'Becky' (David) Jeske and their children, Julie and Amy, New Berlin; Barbara 'Babs' (Michael) Smith and their son, Michael, Appleton; four sons; Kim, Los Angeles, Ca., Mark, Seal Rock, Oregon; Richard (Chris) and their children, Richard L., Caralyn and Ryan, Green Bay; and Randall (Kathleen) and their children, Nathan and Connoe, Fayetteville, N.C.; five brothers; Albert (Sid) West, Ottawa, Ill.; James (Ruth) West, Deerborn, Mi; Leo West, Edgewater, Fl; Ralph (Jean) West, Fort Collins, Col; Theodore (Rita) West, Kirkwood, Mo; a sister, Leona Mullen, Green Bay; a sister in-law; Rose Mary West, Milwaukee.
Other than her parents, Marie was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Paul West; four sisters; Lucille and Ruth West, Virginia Ashman, and Verna Mader.
Funeral liturgy will be held Friday, April 4, 1997 at 11 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr. with Fr. Harold Berryman officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmanns Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St. on Thursday from 4-8 PM and again on Friday directly from the church from 10 AM until the time of service. Their will be a 7 PM prayer service Thursday evening.
A memorial fund is being established in her name.
