- VIRGINIA WEST ASHMAN, born Jan. 8, 1919, and died March 12, 1993.
She married Earl Ashman in May 15, 1941, and they had Jean, Mary,
Diana and John. She was enrolled in a convent in Ladysmith Wi. but
returned to finish High School in Little Chute at St. Johns. She
worked in a val-iety of jobs until her marriage, after that she did
alot of sewing for people. Earl went into service in 1942. They were
living with Earls mother on Lincoln St. Ralph and Ted her bro~hers
lived with here for a period in 1945, while there they started to
dig out the basement. She was seriously afflicted with arthritis,
and had many operations on her hands and feet. She was especially
close to her Godmother Anna Bloomer.

Mrs. Earl Ashman (Virginia A. West) 322 E. Lincoln St., age 74, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Thursday, March 11, 1993 following a short illness due to kidney failure. She was born January 8, 1919 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Oudenhoven) West and had been an Appleton resident all of her life. Virginia was united in marriage to Earl Ashman on May 15, 1941 sharing 37 years together before his death on February 15, 1979. She was employed by Dr. H. Gross and later at St. Elizabeth Hospital retiring in 1972. Virginia was an excellent seamtress. She was a creative person and enjoyed making a variety of crafts for family and friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son in-law; Mary Jones and her fiance, Greg, North Brook, IL; Diane and James Arft, Appleton; a son and daughter in-law; John and Betty Ashman, Appleton; ten grandchildren; Jeff and fiancee, Lisa, and Jay Jones, Mark (Julie), Mike and his fiancee, Lyn, and Melissa Arft, Christy Ashman, Scott, Jim, Todd and Perry Dietzler; five great grandchildren; Melissa, Michael and Michelle Dietzler, Elliot and Aleigha Arft; five brothers and four sisters in-law; Al and Sid West, Ottawa, IL; Leo West, Rockledge, Fl; Theodore and Rita West, Van Nuys, Ca; James and Ruth West, Dearborn, Mi; Ralph and Jean West, Fort Collins, Co; two sisters and a brother in-law; Leona Mullen, Green Bay; Marie and Richard B. Malchow, Appleton; a sister in-law, Rosemary West, Milwaukee.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Wall; two brothers; David and Paul West; three sisters; Lucille and Ruth West, and Verna Mader; also a brother in-law, Henry Made
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St. with the Rev. William Kuhr officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida St. from 3 to 8 PM Sunday and until 10:30 AM Monday at which time the cortege will leave for church. The parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 Sunday. A memorial fund for Arthritis Foundation had been established.
