- WALTER J VANDERZANDEN
A funeral mass will be held Friday morning for Walter J. Vanderzanden, 85, Hillsboro.
Mr. Vanderzanden died June 17, 1991, at Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. Friday's mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The Rosary will be at 8 p.m. this evening at the church.
Mr. VanderZanden was born Jan. 2, 1906, in Roy, a son of John M. and Anna Bernards VanderZanden. He was raised and educated in Roy.
On Oct. 1, 1929, he married Hannah Vandehey in Roy. They observed their 61st wedding anniversary last fall. Mr. VanderZanden farmed in Gales Creek and worked as a logger before moving to Hillsboro in 1933.
He was a member of the Wheat Growers Association and St. Matthew Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Hannah VanderZanden, Hillsboro; three sons, Dale VanderZanden, Richard VanderZanden and Tom VanderZanden, all of Hillsboro; and three daughters, Carmella Wren and Elaine Davis, both of Hillsboro, and Carolyn Perrin, Portland.
Also surviving are 25 grand-children; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry of Banks, Raymond of Beaverton and Clarence of Hillsboro; four sisters, Minnie Shaw and Martha Harty, both of Portland, Agnes Steeves, Pasco, Wash., and Henrietta Jesse, Roy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth VanderZanden; a grand-son, Daniel Davis; and two brothers, Bert and Joe Vanderzanden.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Matthew Catholic School Fund or Building Fund.
