Edwin Duyck
EDWIN HENRY DUYCK was born January 1, 1930 at his parent's home in Mountaindale, Oregon, the son of the late Emil Henry Duyck and Anna Marie (Hillecke) Duyck. He was raised on his parent's dairy farm in Mountaindale and attended the one-room Harrison School House and later St. Francis School in Roy. He was a graduate of Banks High School Class of 1948 where he was active in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and lettered in baseball for Banks High School.
He was united in marriage to Ethel Jean VanDyke on December 30, 1952 in St. Paul, Oregon. They celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary this past December. Following their marriage they moved to the Duyck Family Dairy Farm in the Cornelius community, where they have made their home since.
Edwin co-owned and operated with his wife, Ethel, the Duyck Family Dairy Farm in Cornelius for 53 years. His love of dairy animals and farming encompassed his entire lifetime. Edwin was an architect who designed and with his own hands built many large barns and building structures to support the expanded dairy operations. Edwin was a craftsman at repairing farm implements and engineering improvements to farm equipment. His animal husbandry skills were well known throughout the community as he was frequently called upon to assist in delivering calves and treating sick animals. His dairy farm kept him busy 365 days a year, with little time for hobbies or recreation. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards, singing at church, and giving his grandchildren ATV rides. The day Edwin passed away, he was doing what he loved most, living on the farm where he daily milked cows and performed farm chores to support the dairy operation.
He was a 57-year Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort as well as the Visitation Choir. Edwin was also a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau.
Edwin was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Myron Duyck.
