    • As a saloonowner he is convicted op april 17 1888 to a fine of 8 guilders. Together with his wife he had prevented the police to make inquiries for a bottle of hard liqour, because he had no licence for such a beverage. The policeofficers had noticed that it was served out of a black bottle to some customers, but when they entered, the bottle and the glasses had disappeared. The fine he gets for resistance against the police. (Arch. Arr. Court Den Bosch, inv. 213, nr. 50).
In the year of 1890 he is working with his brother Wilem on the factory of Schoenmakers and Coenen in Uden. On the 31 of march of that year there aredisturbances when the wages have to be payed for extra hours. Feeling this the boss Coenen had ordered the police to be in the neighbourhood. They agreed that one person at the time could come in for payment but when two men were inside they could not hold back the rest of the crowd. Gerard and his brother Willem were one of the First to entter and begun the fight with the police officers and tried to take away their weapons.Others also went into that fight and most of the Furniture was damaged. At the end 10 men had to go to court in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch and heard the verdict that was 5 months in jail.(Arch. Arr. Rechtbank Den Bosch, inv. 239, nr. 1).
In 1893 he left with his wife and four children to the United States.
