    • Milton J. Craanen, 82, Bay Settlement, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at a local hospital.

      Born in Bay Settlement, Nov. 9, 1927, he is the son of the late Jacob and Mary (Van Lanen) Craanen.

      Milt served in the United States Army, during World War II.

      He married the former, Marilyn Moureau, May 28, 1948, at Holy Cross Church in Bay Settlement.

      Milt was a farmer, self-employed home builder, and worked for Ziese Construction until his retirement. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, playing cards, deer hunting and going up north to the cottage. Milt was in the "Over the Hill" gang at Holy Cross Church and was a lifetime member of the parish.

      He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Bay Settlement; children and their spouses, Gary (Sue) Craanen, Racine; Dave (Gwen) Craanen, Townsend; Mary (Donald, Jr.) Coppens, Denmark; Nancy (Mark) Bader, Janice Craanen, all of Green Bay; Joan Jones (special friend, Gary Liethen), Suamico; and Denis (Lynn) Craanen, New Franken; 11 grandchildren, Adam and Melissa "Missy" Craanen, Cindy (Joe) Black, Jesse (Christine) Van Ven Roy, Sara (Brian) Kehrli, Jody Van Ven Roy, Tracy Bader (fiance, Dan Johnson), Terry Bader (special friend, Chris Knuth), Amy (Scott) Vogels, Zachary and Hannah Jones; eight great- grandchildren, Marie, Zoey, Jack, Olivia, Andrew, Payton, Sophie, and Kayla; siblings and their spouses, Rita Strebel, Herbert (Lucille) Craanen, Gen Craanen, Clayton (Ardella) Craanen, and Dorothy Malczewski; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Bernice (Robert) Jacobs, Rita Moureau, Joyce (Carl) Berg, Doris (Clarence) Ducat, Jean (Donald) Smits, Rita (Pete) Jauquet, Loretta (Dale) VanDerKin, Rosemary (Connie) Van Ess, and Judy (Darrell) Lardinois; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Richard (Joan) Moureau, Richard Bielinski; many nieces and nephews.

      Milt was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Craanen; brother, Donald Craanen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph (Mamie) Moureau; brothers-in-law, Ralph Strebel, Orlin Pirlot, Stanley Bosetski, and Walter Moureau; sisters-in-law, Sister Mary John (Grace Moureau), and Shirley Bielinski.

      Visitation at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road, Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. Parish wake service 6 p.m. (TONIGHT) Friday at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Hagendorf, O.Praem. officiating.
