      “James VanDerLinden

      James VanDerLinden, 81, of 201 State st., died yesterday at the Merton convalescent home. A retired electrical engineer, he moved here from Oshkosh last November. He was born in Appleton April 4, 1867. VanDerLinden is survived by his wife, Effie, and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Smith, Waukesha, and two sons, Harry of San Diego and Lee of Renton, Wash. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow a t 2:30 pm. from the Lyle-Tuschen funeral home, the Rev. Dwight Moody Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 pm. tonight.”

      James Vander Linden was a lock tender, like his father, Lock #2, Appleton, from 1893 to 1902. He then worked for Fox River Paper Mill for 36 years retiring in 1938 as assistant electrical engineer. In 1941 James and Effie were still living in Appleton at 1519 S. Kernan St. Moved to Oshkosh, WI to live with daughter Irene Smith and moved to Waukesha, WI in 1947 with daughter Irene Smith and family.

      James Vander Linden married Effie L. MARSCH alia MARSH on 23 OCT 1886 in Outagamie County, WI. Effie L. Marsh born ca 1865/1866 in MI. Witnesses were Louisa Riehl and Clarence Neff. (Source: Outagamie County Marriage Record). In the marriage record Effie states that her father is Henry Marsch and mother Emma Marsch, born in MI. (Believe that this is incorrect). Effie MARSCH died after 1948 in Waukesha, Waukesha County, WI.
