    • Age 89, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003 while staying at the home of her son. Leona was born in Freedom on March 11, 1914 and attended elementary school in Freedom. On May 15, 1931, she married George Van Dyke; he preceded her in death in 1989. In her younger years, Leona worked in the kitchen at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was an avid card player and also enjoyed church bingo, and was a former member of the Kimberly Golden Agers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her – she loved them all very much.

      She is survived by a daughter: Linda Schwister of Appleton and her special friend Ken Lazier; two sons: Kenneth (Bette) Van Dyke of Appleton and Cliff (Alice) Van Dyke of Neenah; eight grandchildren: Cindy (Bob) Gooding, Bill Van Dyke, Judy Van Dyke and her special friend chuck Jacob, Steve (Sherry) Van Dyke, Mike (Lisa) Van Dyke, Jim (Wendy) Van Dyke, Tom (Mary) Schwister, and Timm (Roxanne) Schwister; thirteen great-grandchildren: Adam and Matthew Gooding; Michael and Mitchell Van Dyke; Katy, Nikki, and Mindy Van Dyke; Sammy Jo and Kayla Van Dyke; Haley and Aaron Schwister; Brock and Bryce Schwister; a sister-in-law: Phyllis Vander Bloemen. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, a son-in-law Tony Schwister, brothers Herman, Burt, Bernard, and Ray, and sisters Margaret, Myrtle, Frances, and Agnes.

      The funeral liturgy for Leona will be held at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call AT THE FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 1 – 4 PM at which time the family will depart for the church for the funeral mass.
