- Loretta T. Coenen, 90, formerly of Auburndale, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Memorial Health Center, Medford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt. Entombment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, Wisconsin Rapids and serving as pallbearers will be her 7 grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be John Thom and Eddie Voss. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield and on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Loretta was born on October 21, 1923 in Blenker, the daughter of Wolfgang and Rose (Brandl) Grassel and attended St. Kilian's Parochial School in Blenker and Auburndale High School. She was united in marriage to Damian H. Coenen on September 8, 1942 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Blenker. He died on December 27, 2004.
Loretta had been employed at Worzella's Grocery Store for 10 years and then Kieffer's Grocery Store for 10 years, both in Auburndale. She also worked at Figi's in Marshfield for a year.
She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sheepshead player. She also enjoyed gardening, her flower beds, gambling, taking trips around the United States and camping. Loretta was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she had served as secretary and treasurer of the Christian Mothers Society.
She is survived by a son, Francis "Fran" (Sharon) Coenen of Westboro, and a daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Zellmer of Eagle. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Angela (Greg) Becker, Kerry Coenen, Lisa (Steve) Schantner, Wendy (Robert) Rudolph, Tara (Rick) Freeman, Bradley (Erin) Zellmer and Chad (Megan) Zellmer, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 5 step great grandchildren, and 3 step great great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Caroline Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids and a brother, Rueben (Romelle) Grassel of Marshfield.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sisters, Agnes, Germain, Dorothy, Annabelle, and Rosemary, 10 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.
