    • Donald C. Navarrete, Combined Locks, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 16, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Milwaukee on September 19, 1931 to the late Fred and Kathryn (Neilson) Navarrete. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Heart of the Valley V.F.W. Post 10544 and the Darboy American Legion Post 265. Don married Helen Harasti at First Baptist Church in Streator, IL on March 28, 1953. Together they owned Office Maintenance Services and retired in 2008. Helen preceded him in death on March 13, 2014.

Don was always up for a good card game. For many years he played in the cribbage and horseshoe leagues at Jerry Kamp's Bar. Later, he enjoyed his Thursday afternoon horse drawn wagon and card playing excursions. More recently, he enjoyed cards with his Monday morning Sheepshead group. He was always able to find a card game while living at Hallmark Place, St. Paul Villa, and even during his short stay at Atrium Post Acute Care. Don also enjoyed woodworking, trips to the casino, his Sunday afternoon dinners at Gerry and Greg's house, margaritas and Budweiser. Don enjoyed Facebook and connecting with family and friends near and far-he always had a loving or humorous comment to share.

He especially cherished his family and getting together with them. Don was a doting grandfather and treasured holding each newborn grandchild and great grandchild.

Don is survived by his children: Gerry (Greg) Vanden Heuvel of Kaukauna; Larry (Susan) of Darboy; Kris (John) Smith of Combined Locks; Julie (Keith) Kramer of Combined Locks; and Jackie (Mark) Boyd of Darboy; grandchildren: Mykk Elahrairah, Diana (Jeremy) Gerrits, Angela (Sam) Peeters, Andrew (Kelyn) Navarrete, Beth (Nick) Romenesko, Ryan, Jordan and Alaina Smith, Jessica Roberts, Joey and Laura Kramer, Erin (Marty) Docter, Danielle Mitchler and Harrison Boyd; great grandchildren: Natus, Arabella, Quindlyn, Graham, Connor, Mason, Matthew, Carter, Cole, Tressa, Mattie, Hudson, Kaden, Addison, Camden and another Romenesko baby due in June; sister: Mary (Rev. John) Dennert; sisters-in-law: Marcia Navarrete and Betty "Little Betty" Harasti; and brothers-in-law: Jim McCann and Joe Harasti. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, John and Elizabeth Harasti; siblings: Jack Navarrete and Jean McCann; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary (Lloyd) Corder, John (Ruth) Harasti, George Harasti, Betty Harasti and Michael (Dorothy) Harasty.
