    • William G. Bons, 82, Little Chute, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 27, 2010. He was born July 11, 1927, in Nijmegen, Holland, son of the late Henry and Marie (Gietman) Bons. Bill was united in marriage to Rosa Van Veghel on June 24, 1954, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly. Bill and Rosa recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary with all of their children. After grade school he went to technical college in Holland for woodworking. This skill served him well when he came to the United States in 1952. Bill worked for most of his life in the building industry, later going into business for himself founding Bill Bons & Sons Construction. Many houses in the Valley were built or finished with his fine workmanship. Bill loved building wooden tulips, lawn ornaments, wagons, bird houses and feeders for family and friends. Bill proudly served as a marine in WWII in the Netherlands.

Bill was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts for 10 years, a member of the Heart of the Valley Senior Service Club, and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul and area nursing homes. Family was very important to Bill. They enjoyed many years at the family cottage on Crystal Lake where they played cards, fished, and sailed. After retirement, Bill and Rosa enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Texas, and Florida. Besides traveling, Bill enjoyed watching the wildlife that frequented his backyard. It was common to see deer, squirrels, turkeys, woodchucks, and a variety of colorful birds. Bill enjoyed many friendships. He especially enjoyed Sunday morning coffee with the Hollanders, and playing cards with friends.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Rosa, and their six children, 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, with one on the way: Jerry (Sharon) Bons, Chris (Julie) Bons, Henry (Connie) Bons, Steve (Linda) Bons, Mary (Tom) Vander Hyden, and Paul (Lisa) Bons; and their children: Adam, Zachary and Ross Bons; Scott and Brian (Molly) Bons; Jenny (John) Kidd, Kevin and Katie Bons; Becky, Joe, Amy and Sally Bons; Jessica and Joshua Vander Hyden; Alex and Casey Bons, Christa and Carly Vander Pas; great grandchildren, Devan and Lea Kidd; further survived by a brother, Jacob (Priscilla) Bons, AZ; three sisters: Betty Kelderman, Kimberly; Dorothy Vander Maazen, Appleton; Annie (John) Schultz, Felicity, OH; brothers-in-law: John Van Veghel, Appleton; Adrian (June) Van Veghel, FL; sisters-in-law: Ardine Bons, Kaukauna; Vivian Bons, AZ; Christine Vander Heyden, The Netherlands; Mary Van Veghel, NM; Sally Bons, Combined Locks.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mary (Jacob) Raetts and Coby (Ted) Kokke; three brothers: Hank Bons, Peter Bons, and John Bons; brothers-in-law: William Vander Maazen, Joseph Vander Heyden, Jacob Kelderman, and Harry Van Veghel; sisters-in-law: Imelda Van Veghel and Barbara Van Veghel.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will be at the church from 2 p.m. Thursday until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Bill's family would like to say a special thank you to Leta Verbeten for her friendship and support throughout the years.

"We loved you dearly. We'll miss you every day of our lives." Love — Rosa, your children, and grandchildren.
