- Van Gompel, Elmer E.
Elmer Edward Van Gompel, of Appleton, formerly of Little Chute; husband, dad, grandpa and great- grandpa passed away peacefully after a short illness surrounded by his loving family October 3, 2005 at the age of 77. He was born December 3, 1927 to Martin and Mary (Van Domelen) Van Gompel in Little Chute. He married Joyce Jansen November 17, 1950 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute where he was a lifetime member. Elmer owned and operated Johnson's Cleaners and later managed Peerless Cleaners. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and caring for his wife. As a younger man, Elmer enjoyed playing his drums in a polka band and was known to many as "Cha-Cha." He had also been a member of the Little Chute Kiwanis Club.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: Doris (Bob) Vanden Boogard, Little Chute; Lois (Mark) Kiel, Kaukauna; Ken (Kathy) Van Gompel, Little Chute; and Ann (Bill) Kerkhof, Kimberly; grandchildren: Linda (Merlin) Vanden Bloomer, Sharon (Brodi) Lund, Kristy Vanden Boogard (special friend Brian), Stephanie (Mike) Kobussen, Nicole Kiel (special friend Matt), Matthew Kiel, Nick, Jenny and Kelly Van Gompel, and Bill Jr. (Rachel) and Jamie Kerkhof; great-grandchildren: Skyler and Trevor Vanden Bloomer, Conner and Kylie Lund; a sister, Verone Gloudemans; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dolores and Ruth Van Gompel, Maureanus Vanden Wyngaard, Maggie (Irv) Guernsey, John (Elaine), Toots and Roger (Darlene) Jansen. Elmer is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his son Wayne, seven brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. The Rev. Patrick Beno will officiate. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of Mass at Church. Interment St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
The Van Gompel family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Theda Clark Hospital, Appleton Medical Center, Dr. Torres and Theda Clark Rehabilitation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
