Thyssen, Martin
Formerly of 610 Reed Street, Neenah, age 88, died Friday, February 15, 2002 at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah after a brief illness. He was born February 21, 1913 in Little Chute, son of Walter and Mary (Hendricks) Thyssen. Martin married Lillian Vanevenhoven, October 29, 1938 at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah. Martin was employed for 37 years by the Neenah Foundry, retiring in 1975. He was highly respected as Superintendent of Plant #3. Martin had 2 holes in 1 in his golfing career at Ridgeway Country Club. He loved being with his family, fishing on the Wolf River with his brothers; square dancing and raising his special Ox Heart tomato plants. In retirement, he and his wife volunteered at the Golden Age Club in Appleton; traveling, playing cards and water exercise at the Neenah YMCA. He possessed creative woodworking talents and enjoyed assisting with carpentry jobs for family and friends. Martin was a deeply spiritual, gentle, and compassionate person. He attended mass daily and meeting with his generous wishes, he was a bone and tissue donor.
Martin is survived by his wife, Lillian; his daughters: Mary Pat (Carl) Thomson, Sherwood; Jean (David) Mueller, Neenah; his grandchildren: Jacqueline (Dennis) Thomson-Ehlers, Paul (Brenda) Thomson, both of Appleton; Tony (Theresa) Mueller, Sun Prairie; Tammy (Daniel) Mueller-Raymond, Brown Deer; his great-grandchildren: Andrea, Matthew and Rachel Ehlers; Mitchell, Selenna and Maria Thomson; McKenna Mueller; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Paul Hietpas, Rochester, Minnesota; Harriet Thyssen, Kimberly; Anita Thyssen, Mackville; Orville (Alma) Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna; Frances Vissers, Menasha; Evelyn (James) Hermes, Little Chute; Nellie Vanevenhoven, Little Chute; Harriet Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna.
Mr. Thyssen was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Johanna (Henry) Van Oudenhoven, Sister Ann Thyssen, Catherine (Lester) Plutz, Ethel (Paul) Hietpas, Gertrude (John) Linskens; six brothers: John Thyssen, Nicholas (Ann) Thyssen, William (Eleanor) Thyssen, George, Raymond and Arnold Thyssen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Raymond and Rita Vanevenhoven, Willard Vissers, Martha and Ervin Vanevenhoven, Arthur and Henry Vanevenhoven.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2002 at St. Margaret Mary Church with Rev. Roy Geenen officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. KESSLER FUNERAL HOME 304 S. Commercial Street
