Vandehei, Richard A.
Richard A. Vandehei, 82, went peacefully to God on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born July 7, 1922, in De Pere to Frank and Josephine (Vercauteren) Vandehei. The family moved to Oneida when he was five, and he lived in Oneida his entire life and farmed until his retirement in 1984.
Richards faith was an important part of his life. He met his wife, Jean Mullen, at St. Joseph Church and they celebrated 60 years of marriage on April 12, 2004. Their 13 children graduated from St. Joseph Grade School. He served as Parish Trustee, Secretary of the Holy Name Society, Head of Ushers and Mass Server for funerals. He counted collections, opened church for daily Mass and was available for repairs and maintenance whenever asked.
In addition to farming, Richard worked at Menominee Sugar Company, Cohodas Brothers Fruit Market, Andrews Oil Company and Green Bay Foods. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Hobart Fire Department for over 20 years. He enjoyed ice fishing with his sons, NASCAR, watching Packers games and playing cards. He had a wonderful sense of humor and seldom passed on an opportunity for a practical joke
Richard is survived by his wife, Jean; six sons and six daughters: Randy (Nancy), Oneida; Gloria (Bob) Scheriff, Green Bay; Audrey (Tom) Mc Carey, Green Bay; Rod (Toni), Oneida; Nancy Skenandore, Oneida; Mark (Terry), Grand Junction, Colorado; Joan, Oneida; Julayne (Mark) Vannieuwenhoven, Stevens Point; Scott (Debbie), Krakow; Vicky Ridderbush, Pulaski and friend Pete Carriveau; Brian, Krakow; Dick, Pulaski; 34 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his sisters and brothers: Vernon and Violet Vandehei, Franklin, WI; Delores (Dottie) Vandehei, Ted and Rosemary Prosser, Alyce and Jerry Berken, Joe and Helen Lemmen, Bill and Carol Vandehei, Faye and Reuel Robertson, all of Oneida; and Michael (Mickey) and Anita Perock, De Pere; sisters and brothers-in-law: Emmet Mullen, Seymour; La Rose Vanden Langenberg, Seymour; and Ken and Elsie Mullen, Green Bay; aunts, Margaret Hockers and Merjorie Jansen, both of De Pere.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Josie Vandehei; mother and father-in-law, Ed and Mae Mullen; his son, Rolly; son-in-law, Z. Ron Skenandore; grandchildren, John Demuth and Renee Scheriff; sisters and brothers: Jim Vandehei, Jeanette and Charles Puyleart; and Helen Lemmen; sisters and brothers-in-law: Roman and Myrtle Mullen; Lucille Mullen, Eben and Gertrude Mullen and Bernard Vanden Langenberg.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11th at St. Joseph Church, 145 St. Joseph Drive, Oneida, beginning at 3 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. to close the evening. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 12th after 9:30 a.m. at church followed by a celebration of Richards life with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., con-celebrated by Rev. Gregory Smith and Rev. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem. Entombment at Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Ryan Funeral Home is assisting the family.
