Vandehei, Jean M.
Jean M. Vandehei, 86, joined her beloved husband Richard in heaven on Sunday, July 5, 2009. She passed away surrounded by her family, leaving behind her legacy of love. Jean was born Nov. 16, 1922, to Ed and Mae (Fries) Mullen. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She lived in Oneida and was a member of St. Joseph Parish her entire life. She and Richard were married April 12, 1944, and celebrated over 60 years of marriage before his death in 2005.
Jean's faith was a very important part of her life and St. Joseph's was home away from home. She was baptized there, graduated from the parish school, met and married Richard there and sent all 13 of their children to St. Joseph Grade School. She was a member of the Ladies Guard of Honor and frequently volunteered to serve funeral dinners, clean church and organize parish card parties. In her later years, she and Dad counted collections and ushered at Mass as long as she was physically able.
Jean loved to cook and bake. Her children grew up thinking that a choice of two or three desserts at every meal was the norm. The cookie jar, refrigerator and freezer were always fully stocked and she never had a problem putting together a meal for unexpected guests. She also enjoyed her garden and taking care of her house plants. Jean truly looked forward to meeting her YMCA friends three times a week for water aerobics class and joining her card playing group for some lively games of smear.
Jean is survived by six sons and six daughters; Randy (Nancy), Oneida; Gloria (Bob) Scheriff, Green Bay; Audrey (Tom) Mc Carey, Green Bay; Rod (Toni), Oneida; Nancy Skenandore and Jerry Blasczyk, Oneida; Mark (Terry), Grand Junction, Colorado; Joan, Oneida; Julayne (Mark) Vannieuwenhoven, Stevens Point; Scott (Debbie), Krakow; Vicky Vandehei and Pete Carriveau, Pulaski; Brian, Oneida; Richard Jr. and fiance' Holly Van Straten, Pulaski; 35 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.She is further survived by her sister and brothers, LaRose VandenLangenberg and Emmet Mullen, Seymour, and Ken Mullen, Green Bay; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vernon Vandehei, Franklin, WI; Dottie Vandehei, Ted and Rosemary Prosser, Alyce Berken, Helen Lemmen, Carol Vandehei, Faye and Reuel Robertson, all of Oneida; and Anita Perock, De Pere.In addition to her husband Richard, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mae Mullen, mother and father-in-law, Frank and Josie Vandehei, her son, Rolly, son-in-law Z. Our thanks to Dad's family who did so much for Mom, to the St. Joseph Parish family for all their prayers and support, and to all our family and friends who have been with us every step of the way. Special thanks, to our sister, Joan, for the loving care and companionship you gave Mom so she could live out her life in the home she loved.
And Mom, our deepest, heartfelt thanks for teaching us the joys of giving and caring for others and the rewards of unconditional love.
