      Vanevenhoven, Louis J. "Louie"

      Louis J."Louie" Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna, age 90, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, due to complications from a recent illness. Louis was born on September 18, 1919, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Albert and Dora (Heindel) Vanevenhoven. He attended Holy Cross School in Kaukauna, and was a 1937 graduate of Kaukauna High School. After high school, Louis was employed at Gustman Chevrolet in Kaukauna, as a mechanic. In July of 1941, Louis enlisted in the Army Air Corp., and was assigned to a photo-mapping reconnaissance unit. He was stationed in the South Pacific (Philippine Island area) during World War II, along with various other posts. He reached the rank of Master Sergeant, along with receiving the Air Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably discharged in December of 1945. Louis continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves through 1961. On January 19, 1946, Louis married (Iola) Maxine Toler of Redfield, Iowa. For the first year or two of marriage, Louis worked for the some of the major airlines in Denver, and Washington D.C., before returning to Kaukauna, to work for Gustman's until his retirement around 1986. During their 63 year marriage, Louis and Maxine traveled worldwide on numerous YMCA sponsored trips. Louis was also a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

      Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Edwin and Martin, and his sisters: Vera, Eva, and Helen; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Morrow.

      He is survived by his wife, Maxine; sisters-in-law: Micki Bales, Texas; Lela Mae Hicks, Port St. Lucie, FL; many nieces and nephews.

      The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Fargo Funeral Home, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service will be a military honor service.
