- Thiel, Roger H. Legend Lake Formerly of Kimberly
Age 83, passed away peacefully into Gods hands on Thursday, May 8, 2003. He was born in Appleton on August 24, 1919, son of the late Henry and Lillian (Bastian) Thiel. Serving in the Army from 1941 to 1945, he was a World War II Vet with the 435th Medical Regiment. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Marie Strick on May 4, 1946. He was a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1947 and became a prominent engineer in the heating and air conditioning field in North Eastern Wisconsin for over 40 years. Roger became an active member of the Knights of Columbus, fourth degree. He was one of the original members of the Star Dusters Club, dancing the night away with his honey, Marie. He enjoyed camping and traveling, taking his children on many memory filled trips. One of his favorite things was just being at Legend Lake relaxing, going for boat rides, walks and visiting with friends. Roger was a loving, caring man who graced our lives with his smile and nurturing ways. He will be deeply missed.
Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie; five children: Gary Thiel of Appleton and his children Monica (fiancé Jimmy) and Eric (Laura); Jeff (Susan) Thiel of Cocoa Beach, FL and their son Brad; Tom (Carol) Thiel of North Freedom and their children Carly, Ryan and Dana; Randy (Jean) Thiel of Kimberly and their son Nicholas; and Pam (Randy) Wyngard of Greenville and their children Devin and Taylor; two great grandchildren: Samantha and Ashley; and two brothers, Jerry (Barbara) and Wayne (Jean).
Roger is preceded in death by four brothers: Hank, Harvey, Carlton and Bob.
The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2003, at HOLY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Fr. Bob Lexa officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff of Appleton Medical Center. A special thank you is also extended to Dr. William Guenther for his years of extraordinary care.
In Lieu of flowers and plants, memorials in Rogers name will be given to Holy Name Parish and other local charities.
