Vanden Heuvel, Dolores G. (Harrison) Dolores G. (Harrison) Vanden Heuvel, formerly of Kimberly, age 83, passed away surrounded by her family at St. Elizabeth Hospital, on Monday, September 4, 2006, She went to be reunited in heaven with her husband, Sam, on his birthday. She was born March 4, 1923, in Lena, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alphonse and Ida (Gerondale) Harrison. Dolores' mother passed away when she was three years old. She spent several years living with relatives until her father married Angeline Petri and the family was reunited. Dolores graduated from Green Bay High School and moved to Kimberly, Wisconsin, where she made her home. On April 24, 1946, she married Leo (Sam) Vanden Heuvel. Sam and Dolores were wed for nearly 45 years. Sam passed away on February 6, 1991.
Dolores was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Kimberly and was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where she volunteered with rummage sales and funeral luncheons as a member of the Ladies of Holy Spirit. She devoted her life to raising her children and spending time with her friends. Her special joys were visiting her daughter in Madison, sharing dinners out and vacations with family, and baking great chocolate chip cookies.
Dolores was blessed with three children: Jack (Barb) Vanden Heuvel, Kimberly; Linda (Gary) Hanson, Madison; and Gary (Connie) Vanden Heuvel, Appleton. She has nine grandchildren: Lori (David) Fuller, Vicki (Josh) Burbey, Matthew (Cindy) Grow, Shelly (Jay) Walker, Brian (Kelly), Scott, Emily, Casey and Samuel Vanden Heuvel; and 10 great-grandchildren: Jason, Ryan, Kevin, Keri, Katelyn, Breanna, Samantha, Megan, Savannah, and Ella. She is also survived by her brother, Cletus (Doris) Harrison of Rochester, NY; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Verbruggen of Little Chute and Joan (Joseph) Verbrick of Little Chute, her brother-in-law, Paul (Lois) Hermsen, nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepmother, her father- and mother-in-law, William and Christine Vanden Heuvel, her brothers: Ray (Dorothy), Rahmon and Louis Harrison, her sisters, Grace (Dennis) Moir and Gladyse Harrison, her brother-in-law, Cornelius (Casey) Verbruggen, brothers and sisters-in-law, Doris (Ted) Heid, Alice Hermsen, and Margaret (Clebourne "Chub") Vander Velden, and her step-siblings.
The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006, at Holy Spirit Parish/ Holy Name of Jesus Church, Kimberly. The Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will officiate. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday until the time of Mass directly at church. Committal Holy Name Cemetery.
The family would like to acknowledge Dolores' special friend of many years, Cathy Brockman, for being there with her for the fun times rummage sales and friendly chats over coffee as well as the last years when her visits were so welcome. Also her sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and Joanie, who brightened her days with phone calls, visits, playing cards, Bingo, and trips up north. Dolores most recently lived at Heartwood Homes in Appleton. Thank you to the staff at Heartwood (her special angels on earth) for your care and enriching her quality of life. Also thank you to Dr. Jack Meyer for many years of compassionate care.
