- Bertha Esther Ludwig, age 85, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Chilton Care Center in Chilton. She was born August 7, 1918, in Stockbridge, daughter of the late Henry & Anna (Steffes) Thill.
Esther married Albert F. Ludwig on November 15, 1939, in Stockbridge. The couple then farmed together in the town of Stockbridge for over 40 years. Esther also earned her beautician license and ran a small beauty parlor out of her house. Albert preceded her in death on June 7, 1994.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kloten, the Christian Mothers, the Daughters of Isabella, Chilton VFW Auxiliary and the Farm Bureau. Esther also enjoyed knitting & crocheting and loved playing Sheepshead every week with her friends.
She is survived by six children, Paul (Susan) Ludwig of Chilton, Frank (Shari) Ludwig of Omaha, NE, Carol Ostrowski of Arlington Heights, IL, Mark (Patti) Ludwig of Fort Collins, CO, Luke Ludwig of Green Bay, and Tom (Bette) Ludwig of Elgin, IL; 17 grandchildren; 5 step- grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great- grandchildren; and a sister, Vivian Hertel of Chilton.
Esther was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ray Ostrowski; a daughter-in-law, Connie Ludwig; a grandchild, Erin Ludwig; and four sisters, Margaret Mueller, Theresa Steiner, Crecence Zahringer and Felicia Kempen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kloten with the Rev. Gary New, S.D.S., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.
