- Joan (Geurts) Bowers, Reno, Nevada, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Joan was born September 5, 1931, to the late William and Marie (Kortz) Geurts. She was married to Harvey Bowers May 20, 1952, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. Harvey passed away March 12, 1964.
Joan was a resident of Freedom and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church until she moved to Reno, Nevada, in 1989 to be with her daughter, Ellen.
Joan is survived by daughter, Dr. Ellen Bowers McBride and son-in-law, Darren McBride of Reno, Nevada. Her grandchildren, Meredith, Samantha, Jaclyn, and Christopher McBride also from Reno.
She is also survived by her twin sister, Jane and Donald Coffey, Joyce Nackers, brothers, Ves and Ange Geurts, Bill (Lefty) and Joan Geurts;. sisters-in-law, lone Geurts, Rose Mary Greiner, and Helen Dachelet; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Elaine) and Glenn Bowers. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by brother, Tom Geurts, brother-in-law, Howard Nackers, sister-in-law, Rita Geurts. Besides her husband, Harvey, his parents, John and Ann Bowers, brothers-in-law, Vernon Bowers, Carl Greiner and Bill Dachelet and sister-in-law, Joyce Broeren.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Joan will be Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with Father Dan Felton officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m.
