Aerts, James James Aerts 90, died on May 16, 2007, after a short illness.
James was born on April 13, 1917, in Green Bay, to Rose (Thomas) and Frank Aerts.
He married Florence Kolb on Sept. 16, 1939 and she preceded him in death on April 30, 1979.
Jim had a long career in law enforcement, rising in the ranks of the De Pere Police Department to assistant chief of police. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1962 and received his degree from President John F. Kennedy. From 1963 to 1981 he served as director of security at St. Norbert College. In addition to his career in law enforcement, Jim was a trained and talented stone mason, who turned this into a full-time career after his retirement. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Jim was also a talented musician. He played clarinet with the Chicago Junior Symphony, the U.S. Navy Band, Green Bay City Band and was one of the original members of the Packer Lumberjack Band. He served two terms as a member of the De Pere City Council.
Jim was an avid Packers fan. For 60 years, he attended all home games, and in later years followed the team to almost every stadium in the country.
He is survived by two daughters, Jamie (David) McGuire, Amy (Scott) Sorenson and a son-in-law, Joseph Hoffman; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Hawley, Shaun (Aaron) Olejniczak, Patrick Thomas, Brianna McGuire, Bridgette McGuire, Lauren Hoffman; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Dorothy (Roe) Aerts; daughter, Suzanne (Aerts) Hoffman; son-in-law, Steven Thomas; and nine brothers and sisters.
Gathering time for family and friends will be Sunday, May 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church on the St. Norbert College campus until the Mass of Christian Burial at 3 p.m., Rev. James Baraniak, O. Praem. officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family.
