- Frank M. "Fritz" Piontek, 90, Green Bay resident, died Tuesday December 2, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born September 29, 1918 in Green Bay to the late John and Josephine (Jurczykowski) Piontek. Fritz married the former Ione Van Boxel on July 19, 1941 at St. Willebrord Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII under General Patton in the Fifth Army. Fritz spent 37 months in service to his country, 34 being overseas. While in service he received numerous commendations, including a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He started employment at Cobb´s Bakery in 1945 and after 40 years of service retired from Mrs. Karl´s bakery in 1981. Fritz spent many of his retired days helping his son at East Side Exhaust. He was an usher and longtime member of St. Philip the Apostle Parish. He is survived by his wife Ione and their three children; Joni and Norb Kane, Ashwaubenon; Randy and Mary Piontek, Allouez and Peggy and Jerry Blohowiak, Bellevue; seven grandchildren, Kelle, Kim, Tracy, Gina, Scott, Shelly and Brett; five great grandchildren, Lucas, Kirsten, Brent, Brady and Tyler; one sister Ann Wiese, Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Angeline Piontek, Green Bay; one brother-in-law, Dick (Mary) Van Boxel, Green Bay; two sister-in-laws, Elaine (Ken) Blohowiak, Green Bay and Jo Ann (Dave) Minten, DePere, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 grandchild, Kristen Lee Piontek, five brothers, Tony, Harry, Bill, John and Cy Piontek; two sisters, Mary Mincheski and Barbara Hemb. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4-8 pm Friday and after 9:30 am Saturday at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St. until time of mass. Parish wake service 7:00 pm Friday, Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Saturday at the church with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating. Burial in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
