  • Notes
    • James L. Zelton, 93, Green Bay resident, died Thursday November 14, 2013 at a local nursing home. He was born in De Pere on August 30, 1920 to the late Hank and Hattie (Janssen) Zelton. Jim married the love of his life in May of 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2011. He was a family man, a master craftsman and lived most of his life in Green Bay. He served his country in the US Army during World War II, from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. His service took him to the European African Middle Eastern Theater. In early years, he was in construction and built several houses including the one he raised his family in on Suydam Street. Jim retired from Northern Paper Company/Georgia Pacific after working there for over thirty years.

They had six children, Diane Amato, Milwaukee; Katherine (Jerry) Hackbart, Madison; Margaret Turner, Muir, Michigan; Todd Zelton, Green Bay; and Beth (Jerry) Hujet, New Franken. His eldest daughter Mary Pat Zelton is deceased. Jim was graced with seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Grandchildren include Shauna Smith; Aaron and Jessie Turner; Sal and James Amato; Heidi, Carrie, and Samantha Hackbart; Brian and Cassie Nichol; Kim, Allison, and James Zelton; Stacy Washington; Dustin, Jeremy, and Jenna Hujet. Great-grandchildren include Cody Turner; Emily Burke; Brittany and Ethan Smith; Dominic, Hattie and Gracie Amato; Sabian Turner; Jayda, Myiah, and Keira Washington; Calleigh and Brayden Hujet. Jim is also survived by a sister, Rita Wassenberg, Green Bay.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ray and Bobby and two sisters: Marion Bielmier and Charlotte Grebe.

Jim spent a life worth of summers with his family at his cottage at Boulder Lake. Many fond memories were created there and some would like to think that a part of him still lingers in the woods that he cared for and loved so much. Jim was greatly loved and is already missed by many. To forget him would be impossible, to miss him unavoidable.

Friends may call at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St. on Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 4:30 p.m. at church with Rev. Andrew Cribben O.Praem officiating. Burial in Fort Howard Memorial Park. Online condolences may be expressed to the Zelton family at www.prokowall.com
