- James L. Zelton, 93, Green Bay resident, died Thursday November 14, 2013 at a local nursing home. He was born in De Pere on August 30, 1920 to the late Hank and Hattie (Janssen) Zelton. Jim married the love of his life in May of 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2011. He was a family man, a master craftsman and lived most of his life in Green Bay. He served his country in the US Army during World War II, from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. His service took him to the European African Middle Eastern Theater. In early years, he was in construction and built several houses including the one he raised his family in on Suydam Street. Jim retired from Northern Paper Company/Georgia Pacific after working there for over thirty years.
They had six children, Diane Amato, Milwaukee; Katherine (Jerry) Hackbart, Madison; Margaret Turner, Muir, Michigan; Todd Zelton, Green Bay; and Beth (Jerry) Hujet, New Franken. His eldest daughter Mary Pat Zelton is deceased. Jim was graced with seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by a sister, Rita Wassenberg, Green Bay.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ray and Bobby and two sisters: Marion Bielmier and Charlotte Grebe.
Jim spent a life worth of summers with his family at his cottage at Boulder Lake. Many fond memories were created there and some would like to think that a part of him still lingers in the woods that he cared for and loved so much. Jim was greatly loved and is already missed by many. To forget him would be impossible, to miss him unavoidable.
