- William Arthur Butler of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends at the age of 71 on March 22, 2011. Bill was born in Escanaba, MI on January 23, 1940. He was a faithful husband, loving brother, proud father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, William Elmer Butler and mother, Mary Alice Harvey Butler, brother, John and son, Duane Brown.
Bill was a proud member of AA for 16 years. He had a great sense of humor. Was proud of his Irish heritage. Loved to work on cars, play cards with his family, and help out others. He loved to go to the casino where he did pretty well at slots. His two dogs, Shatsi and Rudy brought much happiness to his days.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Ardis. His children, Cherie (Pete) Tuyls of Cornell, MI, Michelle (Frank) Adams of Dallas, TX, Bill (Sandra) Kanerva of Shawano, WI, Greg (Tracy) Butler of Belgium, WI and Brenda Butler of Lomira, WI. Daughters, Barbara, Annette and Cheri Brown of Phoenix, AZ. Twenty grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He leaves behind many siblings, Sister Barbara Jean of Bapchule, AZ, Mary (Richard) Frazer, Patricia Abba and Barbara Tebear (Robert) of Escanaba, MI, Virginia (George) Kang of Little Chute, WI, Marcia (Pat) Verhamme of Escanaba, MI, Robert (Debbie) Butler of Menomonee Falls, WI and Margaret (Michael) Dawson of Allen TX.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Peter Indian Mission Church 1500 N. St. Peter Rd. Bapchule, AZ with Mgsr. Ed Muelemans officiating. Lunch will be served following the service.
There will also be a memorial service in Escanaba, MI in May or June, 2011, where his ashes will remain. Date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter Indian Mission School at PO Box 10840 Bapchule, AZ 85121.
Basic directions from Phoenix to St. Peter Indian Mission Church I 10 east towards Tuscon exit 175 (Hwy 587) go left 2-3 blocks, left on Nelson Rd. to stop sign (about two miles), take a right on St. Peter Rd., go three blocks and turn right to church.
